Comentario: "This album has been designed as a sampler of the diverse forms of old-time music in Tennessee during the 1920's and 1930's, and to illustrate some of the points made in the book Tennessee Strings by Charles Wolfe (The University of Tennessee Press, 1978). The selections have been drawn from the first decade f commercial recording of country music, and have been designed not only to complement the book, but to bring back into print some classic performances the have been for too many years been unavailable to the average listener. We have tried to avoid duplicating titles already available on historical reissues, and to produce a collection that will appeal both to the serious student and collector of old-time music as well as to the general listener. More information about many of these performers, as well as the general social context of the music, can be found in Tennessee Strings."
